Cefneithin 19/10/19

CEFNEITHIN   23        LLANDYBIE   22

Llandybie travelled minus a number of regulars expecting a tough match. Llandybie started with purpose and gained an early penalty for offside converted by Ben Featherstone followed soon after by another kicked by Featherstone. A try went begging after a kick ahead with a four on two overlap. Another penalty for not releasing, near the halfway fell short. The visitors tackling and speed to the breakdown were better, but Cefn set up an attack with their centre finding a gap to score converted by the fullback to lead  7  -  6. the sides swapped penalties till half time with Cefn leading 13 – 12. The visitors would wonder why they were adrift as they had the better of the territory.

Cefn missed a penalty but exerted pressure to score from their number twelve after a missed tackle converted by the full back to lead 20 – 12. With the visitors trying to run from their own ten yard line a couple of dropped passes kept the pressure on them. Llandybie responded with a breakaway but winger Rhydian Jones was lost with a nasty ankle injury in a tackle. Rhys Cann, Dai Lloyd and Leighton Rees came on for Llandybie with them gaining twenty yards with a driving scrum. Tom Griffith distribute well for Llandybie and Connor Thomas tried to break the line but could have passed with two outside. Mike Tench was again on form in the tackle area as was Nathaniel Butler. Llandybie exerted a lot of pressure from a Butler  carry  with Wayne Williams offloading in a heavy tackle with the ball passing to Tim Williams to score for the visitors converted by Featherstone. Another good scrummage gave Featherstone a run from deep and his kick ahead rolled into touch in hosts twenty two.  Ellis Barr went off with a head injury after a good tackle and Llandybie gained a penalty converted by Featherstone to lead with five minutes left.

From the restart no Llandybie player attempted to take the ball and Cefn centre ran through to within ten yards. Good scramble defence kept then out but an offside gave Cefn a kick at goal converted by their full back for them to run out winners by a point.

A few Llandybie players didn’t put their hands up in the last five minutes and the visitors will be kicking themselves they did not win this game. This result puts Llandybie next to bottom whereas a win would have put them sixth. Next Saturday Llandybie are home to Furnace Utd.
