Penygroes 13/1/18

           PENYGROES   0    LLANDYBIE   66

Llandybie travelled the short distance to Penygroes for this league match.  Penygroes were sadly depleted however and could only field thirteen players. Llandybie kicked off and Penygroes played keep ball in the opening minutes with a number of good drives by their big forwards. A kick ahead was gathered by Josh Cranfield who came across field with Rhys Evans in support who handed on to Ben Featherstone to score converted by Aled Tommason. With Penygroes thin on back players a cross field kick by fly half Richard Davies was chased by Evans who controlled the ball well with feet to score again converted by Tommason.  Hooker Rhys Cann found James Tommason in the lineout and the ball was shipped across field by Tom Griffith with full back Dafydd Nicholas coming into the line to score converted by Tommason. The hosts were working hard to stay in the game and a break by centre Prosser took him into the visitors twenty two but Evans had got back to make a good tackle. The hosts forwards were trying to drive forward but the tackling of the Llandybie back row of Lyndon Davies, Nathaniel Butler and Shon Davies was top class and the service of Tom Griffith at base of the scrums and rucks put his backs on the front foot.

Another break by the visitors put Nicholas clear on half way and he scored the fourth try and kicked the conversion to lead 28 -0.  Good carries by Keenan Jones and Cann kept the visitors on the attack and Butler broke clear to put Rhys Evans over again to lead 35 – 0 at half time. The hosts players should be complemented as they never gave up the cause and put in a massive amount of work.

Early in the second half Richard Davies broke clear with Tommason and Evans in support for Evans to score his third try converted by Tommason and soon after Nicholas scored his third try and kicked the conversion. Llandybie with the game long won gave Penygroes two players to even up the contest. A twenty yard burst from Lyndon Davies with Evans in support put Butler clear to score . Dai Lloyd, Mathew Meredith and Dan Brooks worked hard for the visitors and James Tommason who had a good day in the lineout came into the line to score converted by Aled Tommason. Nathaniel Butler scored the last try to complete the day for the visitors. Although one sided the Penygroes players tried to make a game of it and the spectators watching were fully appreciative of their efforts. Llandybie move up to fourth in the league and next week are home to Trimsaran.
