Newcastle Emlyn 2nds - match report

                   NEWCASTLE EMLYN   17    LLANDYBIE   34

Llandybie travelled to play the latest round of the Division 3C Cup minus a number of injured players but still fielded a strong squad.                                                                                        Aled Tommason missed an early penalty for Llandybie but a strong carry from flanker Lyndon Davies created a gap to put full back Dafydd Nicholas in for a try, the conversion was missed. Newcastle Emlyn missed a penalty but kept up a sustained period of pressure which tested the visitors and for about twenty minutes Llandybie had little ball to play with. Emlyn kicked a penalty by Krwys Rees and scored a length of the field try by GethinHowells converted by Rees to lead 10-5. The visitors lost centre Johnny Harris with a pulled hamstring replaced by Josh Cranfield. Llandybie replied with a penalty by Tommason and with Emlyn attacking the ball was turned over with right wing Keri Davies coming into midfield with a good run on to Cranfield who made forty metres and with the cover coming across passed inside to supporting Ben Featherstone to score converted by Tommason to lead 15 – 10 at half time.  Llandybie lost Lyndon Davies and prop Keenan Jones with shoulder injuries replaced by Merlyn McClelland and Matthew Meredith. Good carries by CerithLilburn and strong tackling by Shon Davies and Nathaniel Butler with Featherstone up very quickly in defence , kept up the momentum. Good kicks from Chris Powell kept Llandybiegoing forward and from a quick tap Butler made ground offloading to scrum half Leighton Rees with a good kick and chase forcing the full back into touch. Dan Brooks found James Tommason at the line out and good carries from McClelland and Shon Davies made ground ,recycling to Butler to force his way over for a try. The conversion was charged down. Newcastle Emlyn fought back with a good try converted by Krwys Rees to bring the score to 17 – 20 and all to play for.

A good scrum  in the middle of the park from Llandybie with good drive by Dai Lloyd, Brooks and Meredith driving Emlyn off their put in with Leighton Rees picking up and drawing the cover to put winger Keri Davies to sprint in from twenty five metres with a great conversion from Tommason. Soon after a good carry from Dai Lloyd drew the cover and Chris Powell found the gap to score, again converted by Tommason to complete the scoring. This was a good squad performance with everyone playing their part against a good Newcastle Emlyn side. Llandybie play the last round of the cup next Saturday against Cefneithin with a win hopefully putting  them into the final, followed the following Tuesday with the semi final of the Tovali Cup against Amman Utd.
