LLandybie vs Bynea 26/11/2016

LLANDYBIE     34        BYNEA   24

This was the clash of the day with unbeaten Llandybie playing host to unbeaten Bynea.             With a number of late withdrawals, the hosts got off to a slow start yet again and looked quite lethargic. Bynea  had come to play and opened the scoring with a try after five minutes by Jonathan Cronin. Bynea were showing good forward movement and scored again after ten minutes to go further ahead through Jamie Davies.                                                                                      Llandybie fought back with good handling by backs and forwards and a strong carry by hooker Rhys Cann tied the defence in and the hosts put the ball wide to winger Josh Cranfield plucking the ball from his feet to score in the corner. Llandybie missed a penalty but Bynea infringed again and Aled Tommason slotted the kick. Bynea came firing back and some poor tackling allowed them to score another try by Gareth Morgan converted by Ken Roberts. Bynea’s centres caused Llandybie problems and kept back rowers Dylan Parry and Nathaniel Butler busy. Rhydian Jones made some good carries and  Bynea were guilty of killing the ball and Tommason slotted another two penalties to bring the score to 14 – 17.  Bynea lost their full back  for continually back chatting the referee and Llandybie made the most of the extra man.

A good drive by the pack on the Bynea put in gave Luke Yelland possession and he put his backs away with full back Rob Smith joining the line to step inside the cover and go over under the posts, Tommason converted. Another cross field move put left winger Ben Featherstone clear but he was put in touch yards short. A clever mismove in midfield put prop Dai Lloyd at full speed in under the posts with Tommason adding the extras to lead    28 -17 at half time.

Llandybie’s line out was much improved with Rhys Cann finding jumpers Alex Comey and Merlyn McClelland with regularity. Fly half Richard Davies was adept at clearing his lines when danger threatened and Chris Powell looked dangerous going forward. Llandybie were on top in the scrums with front row of Lloyd , Cann and Keenan Jones adding the power. A fabulous carry by captain Rhydian Jones handing off three opponents backed up by Comey who was tackled when offloading and fell awkwardly  unfortunately breaking his fibia.                  Play was held up for over ten minutes whilst the medics treated him. Thanks to the Bynea first aider who assisted Stuart Williams , the Llandybie first aider. James Tommason came on as replacement and did well in the lineouts. Nathaniel Butler took a long throw at the back of the lineout to burst clear but dropped the ball going over the whitewash. Bynea gave away another penalty slotted by Aled Tommason to lead 31 – 17 but Bynea were not finished  and scored their fourth try by Tom Lloyd converted by Roberts, to gain a bonus point. Ethan Walters replaced the injured McClelland who had bravely dived on a loose ball with his opponent going in knees first. Llandybie gained another penalty again kicked by Tommason to bring his tally to 19 points. A good win for Llandybie who preserved their unbeaten record against a strong physical Bynea side who made a good game of it .                             Next week Llandybie  are away to Pantyfynnon.
