Nantgaredig 31/3/2018

            LLANDYBIE   33      NANTGAREDIG  44

Llandybie entertained Nantgaredig in what proved to be a ding dong battle. The committee worked hard to get the pitch marked and playable after all the overnight rain. The hosts got off to a poor start, with good movement but passes going to ground. Nant drew first blood with good interpassing and support play together with some poor tackling to score after five minutes from Gwyn Pierce converted by Meirion Davies. Llandybie had a penalty for holding down in the lineout and Lee Davies struck it well from forty yards. Pressure from Nant led to another try wide out by Adam Quill  to lead 12 – 3 after twenty minutes. From a good scrummage the hosts went blind to full back Josh Williams, finding  centre Rhys Evans making good ground on the wing to wing Dafydd Nicholas who was high tackled yards short. The referee immediately gave a penalty try, but no yellow card. Nant gave another penalty for not releasing in the tackle and Lee Davies took the points to lead 13 – 12.                                                                          Nant then had a penalty for not releasing and Davies took the points. Nantgaredig then scored a try from the kick off, aided by poor tackling, scored by scrum half George Gleeson. A penalty by Davies failed but he slotted another for offside to bring Llandybie within a score at 16 – 20. Another try again down the left by Lloyd Williams converted by Davies gave Nant a healthy half time lead 27 – 16.                                                                                                     Llandybie made the mistake of kicking to the Nant full back Williams who ran the ball back at every opportunityGleeson scored a try from the kick off converted by Meirion Davies but Llandybie replied with a good turnover and a good run by captain Rhydian Jones. Eirian Williams worked hard in attack and defence  and Nant were offside again and Davies kicked to touch. Dan Brooks found Merlyn McClelland in the line out and a good carry by Dai Lloyd and the ball went left but was switched back inside to Rhydian Jones to score a try converted by Davies ( 23 -34). Nant went on the attack but good defence held them off but Meirion Davies dropped an opportunist goal.                                                                                                   Llandybie kept going with good tackles by Evans and Richard Davies and Lee Davies threw a long pass to winger Rhydian Jones to score out wide. Another try by Nant from Rhydian Evans with Davies adding the extras put them into  a  44 – 28 lead. Llandybie needed another try to get anything from the game. Number 8 Rhydian Jones made a thirty yard dash up the wing supported by prop Dai Lloyd, but the cover held them up. Good recycling by the front three put the ball across to Dafydd Nicholas who found Shon Davies at his shoulder to crash over. Llandybie never gave up the match but poor tackling let them down for once, but the bonus point try moved them up to third ahead of Lampeter.
