Trimsaran - 20/01/18 Match report

LLANDYBIE   17    TRIMSARAN    12

Llandybie welcomed Trimsaran expecting a tough match as was the case in Trimsaran. The visitors came with a bare fifteen and elected to go passive scrums from the start.                           The first ten minutes saw both teams defensively minded, with Llandybie trying a few driving mauls to suck in the Trimsaran defence. Both sides warmed to the task and started to throw the ball wide looking for an opening. Hooker Dan Brooks found James Tommason in the lineout well lifted by the pack. The hosts advanced to the twenty two and from a ruck Leighton Rees moved the ball wide. Fly half Lee Davies put in a clever cross kick for winger Josh Cranfield to score. A good offload by centre Rhys Evans to Nathaniel Butler in support but he knocked on with a try begging. Llandybie  were cranking up the pressure with forward drives from Lyndon Davies and Rhydian Jones but the Trimsaran fly half forced them back with some good touch finders. Josh Cranfield was lost with a head injury to be replaced by Alex Wigley. Llandybie kept up the pressure and good drives and rucks saw them put the ball through hands to flanker Shon Davies popping up on the wing to score with fine conversion from Lee Davies. Trimsaran had their moments looking dangerous at times in the backs and from a dropped pass kicked through but with full back Dafydd Nicholas covering the ball went dead.  A good dummy by Lee Davies put him through a gap but his offload to Rhys Evans was too low and another chance went begging. Trimsaran had a penalty which they missed and half time arrived with the hosts 12 -0 to the good.

The second half saw the hosts giving away a number of silly penalties but Trimsaran did not take advantage. Keenan Jones and Mathew Meredith added the power in an early scrum and the ball was moved quickly through Richard Davies to centre Rhys Evans who scampered in for a try. Looking for the bonus point try Llandybie turned down two penalties in front of the posts. A typical thirty yard burst from Lyndon Davies almost brought a breakthrough but his offload to Leighton Rees was blocked off and Trimsaran cleared the danger.  A good run from Dafydd Nicholas found Ben Featherstone but he was bundled into touch ten yards short. Butler went on a run supported by Davies but his offload was knocked on by Rhydian Jones. James Tommason had a good match in the lineout and the loose and hosts should have been out of sight by now but Trimsaran kept working hard and were rewarded with two late tries one of which was converted.

Llandybie gave far too many penalties in the second half and should have had a bonus point from this game after leading 17 - 0 and somehow did not score in the second half .The players were really frustrated that the balls dropped would have given them that much needed bonus. As it was Trimsaran gained a losing bonus point they deserved for keeping competing. Next week Llandybie are  home to Nantgaredig with a win a must to keep them in contention.
