Trimsaran 1/9/2018

LLANDYBIE    10     TRIMSARAN  1 Match report by Charles

Llandybie started the new season with a home fixture against Trimsaran minus a lot of players due to injury, work commitments and holidays. A few late withdrawals also added to the problem , but nevertheless the there was a full squad available for kick off.

The early exchanges were even with both sides missing early penalties. Llandybie made a good break with centre Rhys Evans breaking the line but the Trimsaran defence got back, turned the ball over and made a break from their twenty two. They threw it wide to the left winger who cut inside the cover and outpaced the defence to score converting the kick to lead 7 -0 after ten minutes. The Llandybie back row of Mike Tench, Eirian Williams and Nathaniel Butler were sound in the tackle area and worked hard and Dai Lloyd made a couple of good carries. A cross kick was fielded by Ben Featherstone passing to full back Chris Powell who found a good touch. Then followed two penalties for the forwards being offside and Trimsaran kicked the second to go further in front. The Trimsaran left winger chased a kick through with four Llandybie players in pursuit, but the referee decided that Butler be yellow carded for a push in the back on the attacker which seemed very harsh as the player had overrun the ball. Trimsaran converted the penalty to lead 13 -0. Llandybie were struggling to get any cohesion with so many changes but they worked hard. Trimsaran yielded a penalty for a neck tackle and again for not retreating ten yards and fly half Lee Davies struck the penalty to put Llandybie on the board. Half time  3  - 13.

Llandybie made some improvement in the second period with two good carries from Tim Williams. The Trimsaran defence were penalised for diving over. Lee Davies found touch and Trimsaran were again penalised but Llandybie were then penalised for early engagement, a decision which surprised many as the pack were now beginning to get the upper hand in the scrum area.Another run from Williams but the home side were penalised for crossing. Then came a good driving scrum from Llandybie with players getting agitated resulting in one from each side being red carded, in what was a very clean game overall and this being the only minor scuffle of the afternoon. There then followed a good cross field move by the backs but unfortunately the pass was dropped and the try lost. Good forward play by Llandybie with carries from captain  Keenan Jones, Eirian Williams and Nathaniel Butler and finally flanker Dylan Parry stretching to score with Davies converting to trail 10 -13.  The match swayed to and fro with Llandybie turning down a penalty kick to level the scores instead going for the try to win the game.  With Llandybie intent on throwing the ball wide a dropped pass resulted in Trimsaran gaining possession to break away and score the decisive try.  An error strewn game with both teams hoping to see a big improvement before next Saturday’s fixtures with Llandybie visiting Amman United for a local derby.
