CEFNEITHIN 10 LLANDYBIE 0
Llandybie travelled to wind and rain swept Cefneithin for yet another local
derby. Llandybie were hoping to shrug off the heavy defeat to Nantgaredig the
week before. The early exchanges were littered with mistakes and knock ons in
the atrocious conditions. With water pooling on the pitch it was doubtful if the
match would be completed. Cefn missed a penalty after fifteen minutes and
Rhys Evans pushed the visitors way upfield with a huge kick. Llandybie were
making ground but the ball was like a bar of soap and passes were dropped.
The Cefn centre was yellow carded for a high tackle but Llandybie could not
profit from the extra man. Lyndon Davies was a big loss with a back injury
replaced by Mike Tench. Jordan Tommason put in a big shift with good carries
and numerous tackles despite carrying an injury. Dylan Parry too had a high
tackle count.
Llandybie full back Wayne Williams fielded a high kick and went on a mazy run,
kicking ahead and outpacing the defence only for the ball to bounce into touch
ten yards short of the line. Cefn made an exerted attack and scored a
converted try minutes from half time. Rhydian Jones was yellow carded for
dissent as he felt he had held the ball up. Half time 7 – 0.
Llandybie’s backs tried to run from deep to open the game out bur Cefneithin’s
defence was good and passes were dropped. With the wind behind Cefneithin
had the right tactics using their big forwards driving forward pick and go’s and
recycling the ball, it was eating up the time. . Llandybie’s defence was good
and the hosts could not cross the whitewash again. Cefn kicked a late penalty
to seal the win and were the better side in the second half. Llandybie did not
offer enough big forwards to carry the ball and could not get any forward
momentum to release the backs. Defensively very good but going forward a
little lazy. After two defeats on the trot training is essential this week to get
back to winning ways next week against Penybanc.
